The Adventurer Vest is a cozy, textured layering piece that’s as practical as it is stylish. Knit in super bulky yarn with a bold stitch pattern, this vest creates a warm, structured fabric that layers beautifully over tees, flannels, and sweaters alike. Designed for every day — whether you’re grabbing coffee or heading out for a chilly hike — it’s the kind of piece you’ll reach for again and again.

What makes this pattern special is its combination of ease and presence: the simple construction keeps the knit satisfying and approachable, while the rich texture adds visual interest and depth. Whether you’re an experienced knitter or someone ready to take on your first garment, the Adventurer Vest offers a rewarding project with a polished finished look that feels intentional and wearable.

Size Guide + Finished Measurements

The vest is written in eight sizes, 1 (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8), with a finished bust size of 34 (37.5, 41, 44.5, 48, 51.5, 55, 58.5) in/86.5 (95.5, 104, 113, 122, 131, 140, 148.5) cm. The vest is intended to have about 4-6 in/10-15 cm of positive ease so pick a size that will provide the intended ease or adjust to your desired ease. Feel free to adjust body length and armhole depth as desired.

Yarn

Approximately 4 (4, 4, 4, 5, 5, 5, 5) skeins of Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick (106 yds/97 m per 6 oz/170 g skein; 80% acrylic, 20% wool ) or any other super bulky weight yarn that meets gauge. Color shown is Driftwood.

Needles

10mm (US 15) 32 in/81cm or longer circular knitting needles or knitting needles needed to obtain correct gauge
9mm (US 13) DPN (only 2 are needed to complete applied i-cord edging)

Gauge

9 STS + 13 Rows = 4 in/10 cm in stockinette stitch in 10mm needles

The vest is knit from the bottom up in one piece until the armholes.  You’ll work the right front, then the back, and finally the left front.  You’ll seam the shoulders of the front pieces to the back, knit the collar, and then finish with applied i-cord around the front, bottom and armholes.
