Knit How to Join in the Round Tutorial
Joining your knitting in the round is the moment when flat rows become a seamless tube — whether you’re starting a hat, cowl, sleeve, or sock. It’s one of the core skills in circular knitting, and while it can feel unfamiliar at first, the actual motion is simple: align your stitches without twisting, mark your beginning, and start knitting in continuous circles. Once you get the rhythm, your fabric grows evenly with no seams to sew later.
This method is used in countless patterns because it creates a smooth, uninterrupted fabric that’s comfortable to wear and clean to finish. With just a few pointers, you’ll be able to join confidently, avoid common pitfalls like twists, and knit projects that feel polished and intentional from the very first round.
How to Join in the Round in Knitting
1. After you've cast on the number of stitches you need, slip last cast on stitch from the left needle on the right needle
2. Slip the last stitch on the right needle over the stitch you just moved over onto the left needle
3. Twist the stitch on the left needle
4. Place a stitch marker to denote the beginning/end of round
