CROCHET | How to Double Crochet (DC)
How to Double Crochet Video Tutorial by Ashley Lillis
The double crochet (abbreviated DC) is one of the most commonly used stitches in crochet — and for good reason. It’s taller than a single crochet, creating quicker height and beautiful texture with fewer rows. Once you get the rhythm of yarn over, insert, yarn over, pull through, you’ll find double crochet is a workhorse stitch: simple to learn, satisfying to work, and incredibly versatile across patterns from scarves and blankets to hats and shawls.
If you’ve already mastered the basics of crochet like the chain stitch, double crochet is a natural next step. It opens up more pattern possibilities, gives your fabric lovely drape, and helps projects grow faster. This guide walks you through the steps clearly and simply so you can build confidence and start using DC in your next project with ease.
How to Double Crochet (DC)
1. Yarn over hook from back to front, insert hook into chain (CH)
2. Yarn over, draw through chain stitch. 3 loops on the hook.
