Simple Sweater Vest Knitting Pattern | Open Trails Worsted Weight

The Open Trails Worsted Sweater Vest is a simple and versatile knitting pattern that can be worn all year round and customized to fit your personal style. This is a great foundational pattern that can be easily adjusted to fit your preferences, whether you want to make it longer or shorter or experiment with different colors. It's knit from the bottom up in the round, and the fronts and backs are knit separately and then seamed together at the top. The simple ribbing adds a classic detail that will never go out of style, and it's suitable for both beginner and advanced knitters. Wear it as a layering piece during the colder months, or as a standalone piece during the warmer months. It's the perfect choice for anyone looking to add a classic sweater vest to their wardrobe.

Size Guide + Finished Measurements

The vest is written in eight sizes, 1 (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8), with a finished bust size of 34 (37.5, 41, 44.5, 48, 51.5, 55, 58.5) in/ 84.5 (93.5, 102, 111, 120, 129, 138, 146) cm.  It is intended to have about 3-5 in/7.5-12.5 cm of positive ease so pick a size that will provide the intended ease or adjust to your desired ease.  Feel free to adjust body length and armhole depth as desired.

Yarn

Approximately 476 (525, 616, 662, 772, 828, 942, 1003) yards/435 (480, 563, 605, 706, 757, 861, 917) meters or 3 (3, 4, 4, 4, 5, 5, 6) skeins of Lion Brand Wool Ease (197 yds/180 m per 3oz/85g skein; 80% acrylic, 20% wool) or another worsted weight yarn that meets gauge. Color shown is Natural Heather.

Needles

5mm (US 8) 32 in/80 cm or 40 in/100 cm circular knitting needles (for the body)
4.5 mm (US 7) 16 in/40 cm or 24 in/60 cm circular knitting needles or double pointed needles (for the collar and armhole ribbing)
Or knitting needles needed to obtain correct gauge

Note that this video tutorial shows how to knit the super bulky version of this sweater, but the concepts still apply to the worsted version. The super bulky version is part of my library pattern bundle.
