The Bentley Hat is a great hat pattern to use as a foundation for other projects. I recently knit one up in a dark gray and was inspired to create a fun Valentine’s Day hat by adding a heart on the front using the duplicate stitch. I love how it turned out!

What is Duplicate Stitch?

Duplicate stitch is a great way to add on to an already finished project — sweaters, hats, scarves, pillows, etc. It’s called duplicate stitch stitch because you use a tapestry needle and a contrasting color yarn and weave the yarn over the existing stitches to create a specific design. The contrasting color is woven on top of the work by following the path of the existing yarn. Duplicate stitch is usually added on top of stockinette stitch.
