How to Knit in the Round
How to Knit in the Round
Many knitters feel intimidated the first time they pick up circular needles — it’s a different setup than straight needles, and that can make it feel unfamiliar. But once you understand the basics, knitting in the round is surprisingly simple and even joyful. Instead of turning your work at the end of each row, you just keep knitting in a loop, slipping your marker as you go to know where each round begins. It’s a smooth, continuous way to make seamless hats, cowls, sweaters, and more — no sewing up seams at the end, just one continuous tube of stitches.
Knitting in the round opens up a whole world of projects. Hats knit up quickly because you’re simply working around and around. Cowls are effortless tubes that drape beautifully. Even sweater bodies and sleeves become more fun and satisfying because you’re creating a finished-looking piece as you go. Once you get over the initial unfamiliarity of the needle setup, you’ll wonder why you didn’t try it sooner.
