Knit Cable Poncho Knitting Pattern
This statement-making cable poncho is a cozy, bold knitting project that’s surprisingly approachable. Knit with super bulky yarn and larger needles, it works up quickly while showing off beautiful braided cables that make this more than just another winter layer.
Whether you’ve knit cables before or you’re ready to take them on for the first time, this poncho gives you a fun way to practice cable stitches while ending up with a garment you’ll actually wear.
Quick Knitting, Big Texture
Using super bulky weight yarn and larger needles means fast progress and satisfying results. The thick yarn makes stitches easy to see and gives the cables maximum definition. You’ll love how quickly the stitches stack up, even though the cables look intricate and impressive.
A Showcase of Braided Cables
This design is all cables — from the neckline through the body — with carefully placed braided cable panels that create striking texture and visual interest. The pattern walks you through each cable section so you feel confident as you go.
Top-Down Construction
The poncho is knit from the top down, so you can easily adjust the length as you work. You’ll start with smaller cables at the neckline and increase into larger cable sections for the body, giving a seamless transition and a flattering drape. Adjust circumference and length by adding or reducing stitches between cable sections.
Wearable & Customizable
This poncho adapts well to different styles and yarn choices. Choose a super bulky yarn color that matches your wardrobe, and enjoy a piece that feels both classic and bold. The stitch pattern and construction make it easy to tailor the size to your preference.

Notes on Fit
This garment is designed to be snug around the shoulders and body while still allowing easy movement. The super-bulky yarn gives stretch and structure, so it holds its shape while feeling warm and cozy.
