Materials
Size US 13 (9mm) 24" Circular Knitting Needles (or see modification for straight needles below)
2 Skeins of Lion Brand Vanna's Choice yarn (or another worsted weight yarn). Each Skein is 3.5 oz. (100 g), 170 yd. (156 m) -- the color pictured is Silver Gray.  Yarn is held double.

About 9 inches wide and 32 inches in circumference

Gauge
6 STS and 11 rows = 4 inches in established pattern [see rows 1 - 3]

Instructions
For Circular Needles
Holding yarn double (two strands together), CO 56 STS and join in the round, marking the beginning/end of row
Row 1: [K2, P2] to the end of the round.  (Note: if you change the number of CO STS, make sure the number of CO STS is divisible by four so you end a row with a P2)
Row 2: [K2, P2] to the end of the round
Row 3: P to the end of the round
Repeat rows 1 - 3 seven more times.
Next row, BO and weave in ends

For Straight Needles
Holding yarn double, CO 56 STS
Row 1:  [K2, P2] to the end
Row 2:  [K2, P2] to the end
Row 3: P to the end
Row 4:  [P2, K2] to the end
Row 5:  [P2, K2] to the end
Row 6: K to the end
Repeat Rows 1-6 three more times for a total of 24 rows.
BO and weave in ends. Sew seams together to complete the circular cowl.
